Granola for Gangsters: Orange, Date and Cardamom Flavour🥣

This is our last flavour we got our hands on from Granola for Gangsters!

This pack was bursting with flavour from juicy dates to the tangy orange and hidden zingy cardamom. This product is made from buckwheat instead of jumbo gluten-free porridge oats, this is still gluten-free!

Our Review:

As we have stated in our previous blog reviews of other flavours we found the granola flavours a little bland when mixed with natural Greek yogurt so we decided to mix this flavour with Vanilla yogurt. This definitely had more flavour but as for the texture the granola was crunchy but very small pieces were it was like crumbs!

Flavour: 8/10

Texture: 5/10

Overall this scored 65% this was the lowest of all 3 flavours but still a high rating, the texture of the small granola pieces we prefer chunky, crunchy granola. The flavour went really well with the vanilla yogurt and can definitely tell the orange flavour stands out. We didn’t add any additional fruit or flavours to this flavour as it was enough without with the yogurt and this was still really nice.

These packs of granola are high in protein which make a great breakfast before hitting the gym and start your day off right!

Granola for Gangsters: Almond, Cranberry and Pistachio Flavour🥣

Mentioning previously on our blog the 3 different flavours of Granola we won we tried our second flavour the Almond, Cranberry and Pistachio.

We never really ate breakfast until we started having Granola for Gangsters Granola which has completely changed us.

31301395_10211492269173445_2662179253008728064_nOur Review:

Again like the Fig, Walnut and Vanilla we mixed the Almond, Cranberry and Pistachio flavour with natural Greek yogurt and found it was still a bland meal but the Cranberry was stronger which gave it some more flavour. The texture was good as the Granola was bigger and crunchier. Again, after trying it with the Greek yogurt we went and tried with the vanilla flavoured yogurt which is more fattening but blends really well with the Granola giving it some more flavour.

Flavour: 9/10

Texture: 9/10

Overall this rated 90% and this came 1st of out the 3 flavours. This flavour is our favourite, this is down to the granola pieces being lovely and crunchy, the sweet and sharp cranberry and the crunch from the grinded pistachio knocking about. Couldn’t really taste the Almond pieces but that was a positive for us as was the least liked part. Beautiful mix of flavours – with the addition of vanilla yogurt this was one tasty brunch!

Thank you for reading, hope our review will help and we would love to know if you have tried this flavour before and what you added to it!

Granola for Gangsters: Fig, Walnut and Vanilla🥣

At the weekend we decided to treat ourselves to some healthy breakfast meals! We don’t usually eat breakfast during the week so this was a lovely treat at the weekend.

In our previous blog post we mentioned about winning a competition and receiving all 3 granola flavours from Granola for Gangsters:

  • Fig, Walnut and Vanilla
  • Orange, Date and Cardamom
  • Almond, Cranberry and Pistachio

This weekend we tried the Fig, Walnut and Vanilla flavour first!

Fig, Walnut and Vanilla Flavour:

All ingredients are 100% natural, gluten free and vegan friendly. This is a great mix of the crunchy cooked granola alongside juicy soft fig pieces and a slight light crunch to the walnut.

Our Initial Review After:

We added our granola to natural Greek yogurt and topped with sliced banana. This was a lovely and healthy meal but was very bland. With the granola being natural ingredients they don’t have a great deal of flavour and neither goes natural Greek yogurt but this made the meal very healthy. Adding the banana gave the meal that extra bit of favour it needed.

Flavour: 7/10

Texture: 8/10

Overall rated 75% this comes 2nd out of the 3 flavours but this was down to the bland taste but the granola was lovely and crunchy. The bland taste can soon be overlooked by what you add to it as this granola can be delicious!

We also added the granola to vanilla flavoured yogurt which was beautiful. Granola giving it a crunch and the soft sweet yogurt which was a perfect mix. We definitely recommend!

Next time we are going to try adding different fruits to give it a sweeter taste and add some more colour to our meal.

Exciting announcement this week from Granola for Gangsters about a new limited edition flavour! We can’t wait to give it a try before it all goes!

Blogmas Day 4 – Christmas Shortbread🍪

Another tasty, easy and quick treat idea perfect for gifts or a simple but effective party food, why not try this!?

  •             125g Caster Sugar
  •             240g of Plain Flour
  •             250g of Unsalted Butter
  •             Biscuits Cutters
  •             Rolling Pin
  •             Grease proof Paper
  •             Baking Trays

To decorate you can use anything, we used icing sugar and ground cinnamon to create a Christmas twist to our biscuits.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 150OC
  2. Using grease proof paper, line 2 baking trays
  3. Beat the butter with a spatula until smooth and soft
  4. Add in the sugar and flour and mix together until a soft dough mixture
  5. Knead the dough mixture until sticking together
  6. Leave to chill in the fridge for 20 minutes
  7. Add some flour to a clean worktop and place the dough on top
  8. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough mixture until 1cm thick
  9. Using your shape cutters place in the dough and move to the baking trays
  10. Place in the oven for 20 minutes or until a light golden colour
  11. Then leave to cool for 5 minutes and then your shortbread biscuits are ready

We used gingerbread men and Christmas tree biscuits cutter shapes which were a little small so when our biscuits grew in the oven they lost their shape a little. They did taste delicious and the right mix of ingredients. We decorated ours using icing sugar and a little mix of ground cinnamon which gave the biscuits a nice kick and flavour.

This is an easy and cheap recipe to pass sometime or make a lovely tasty treat for family or work.

Thank you for reading and we would love to see your creations.

  • 275g Self-raising Flour (little bit extra to dust the side and rolling pin)
  • Vanilla Extract
  • 1 free-ranged Egg
  • Christmas Shaped Biscuit Cutters
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking Tray
  • Grease proof paper

  • Icing Pens

  • Food colouring
  • Icing sugar

Step-by-Step Guide to Bake the Biscuits:

  2. Mix the caster sugar and butter together until a pale colour.
  3. Wisk the egg in a separate bowl and add bit by bit with the Vanilla extract until fully mixed.

  8. Carry on until you have used all your dough mix (you will have to refold and roll out a few times).25400884_10210607811582558_1085623349_o.jpg
  9. Place your tray in the oven for 8-12 minutes (until they turn a golden colour).
  10. When a golden colour, remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  11. Then you are ready to decorate your biscuits!

Step-by-Step Guide to Decorate the Biscuits:

For this step, you can either use ready-made icing pens from the store or follow the guide below to create your own coloured icing.

To create your own coloured icing, it is simple you just need to add 1 and a ½g of icing sugar to 1 tablespoon of water and add 2-3 drops of food colouring. You can add more food colouring to have a stronger colour depending on how much icing you have made. If you need more icing use the ratio of water to icing sugar until you have enough.

Now you are ready to decorate your biscuits how you like!

You could even buy edible glitter to sparkle things up.

Our First Attempt:

They don’t need to be perfect this is just a bit of fun and remember as long as they taste nice that’s all that matters!

Some of ours went a little too golden in the oven and we left ours for 11 minutes, but that just added an extra crunch! We aren’t professional biscuit decorators so we had a little bit of fun messing around creating these amateur designs! In total, it took us just short of two hours to bake and decorate but depending on how many you make this could pass a few hours.

To make it more festive why don’t you play a few Christmas songs whilst you bake!

Thank you for reading we would love to see your attempts and photographs.
