Blogmas Day 7 – Christmas Tree Reveal🎄

We don’t know about you but we love to see other people’s Christmas tree photographs and designs! We believe that how you decorate your Christmas tree shows your personality by the shape of tree you buy, what you place on your tree and colour scheme. Everyone has a different tree in some way or another and it’s lovely to see different ideas and creations.

We would love to share our Christmas tree and how we decorated it!

This is our first Christmas tree in our house together. We bought it for an amazing £5 last boxing day in the sales. We prefer an artificial tree as our families have both always had them. As it is our first tree together we haven’t collected many personal baubles. Our families’ main tree contains a number of personal baubles and holiday baubles. Our holiday bauble tradition is wherever we go on holiday whether in the UK or abroad we will purchase a bauble to remember that place. This year we had only been to Disney so we bought a bauble from there.

We both agreed on warm white LED lights as we didn’t like blue or bright white coloured as the warm white lights up the room but creates a warm vibe. The blue and brighter white lights made the house feel cold and too bright in the room.

We also picked the colour scheme red and gold as it makes the house feel warm and homely. We decided the white or blue colours made the house feel cold but also they do however make it feel like a white Christmas and reminds us of snow. So we bought red and gold, plain and glittery baubles and also matching tinsel.

Finally we like to add Christmas crackers and candy canes to our tree as our families and grandparents have a tradition of doing this. This reminds us of our childhood grabbing a candy cane on Christmas Eve to eat and a cracker before our Christmas dinner on Christmas Day.

Blogmas Day 3 – Christmas Biscuits🍪

Struggling to keep the children entertained whilst off school? Or looking for a cheap and quick treat to make for your Christmas party? Why not try this simple and quick recipe for making…

Christmas themed Biscuits!

This is a simple, quick and cheap activity with a delicious outcome. A perfect treat to take into work and keep your boss sweet or an activity for the children to enjoy on them cold, snowy days!

What you will need:

Everything can be bought from your local supermarket; ingredients and equipment to create these tasty treats. You can buy Christmas shaped cutters in most supermarket shops, we bought ours from Home Bargains for a fantastic £1.99, check them out here. In this pack, you get 6 shapes which are: Christmas tree, Angel, Bell, Snowman, Gingerbread Man and Shooting Star. These cutters can be washed and reused as much as you like.

To Bake:

  • 100g Unsalted Butter
  • 100g Caster Sugar
  • 275g Self-raising Flour (little bit extra to dust the side and rolling pin)
  • Vanilla Extract
  • 1 free-ranged Egg
  • Christmas Shaped Biscuit Cutters
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking Tray
  • Grease proof paper

To Decorate:

  • Icing Pens

Or

  • Food colouring
  • Icing sugar

 

Step-by-Step Guide to Bake the Biscuits:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 190oC and line a baking tray (or two) with grease proof paper.
  2. Mix the caster sugar and butter together until a pale colour.
  3. Wisk the egg in a separate bowl and add bit by bit with the Vanilla extract until fully mixed.
  4. Once fully mixed add the flour bit by bit until a dough mixture.
  5. Sprinkle the flour on your worktop and place the dough mixture on.
  6. Using the rolling pin spread evenly until about 1cm thick.
  7. Using your shape cutters place into the dough and then onto the baking tray.25397697_10210607811622559_1062150080_o
  8. Carry on until you have used all your dough mix (you will have to refold and roll out a few times).25400884_10210607811582558_1085623349_o.jpg
  9. Place your tray in the oven for 8-12 minutes (until they turn a golden colour).
  10. When a golden colour, remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  11. Then you are ready to decorate your biscuits!

Step-by-Step Guide to Decorate the Biscuits:

For this step, you can either use ready-made icing pens from the store or follow the guide below to create your own coloured icing.

To create your own coloured icing, it is simple you just need to add 1 and a ½g of icing sugar to 1 tablespoon of water and add 2-3 drops of food colouring. You can add more food colouring to have a stronger colour depending on how much icing you have made. If you need more icing use the ratio of water to icing sugar until you have enough.

Now you are ready to decorate your biscuits how you like!

You could even buy edible glitter to sparkle things up.

Our First Attempt:

They don’t need to be perfect this is just a bit of fun and remember as long as they taste nice that’s all that matters!

Some of ours went a little too golden in the oven and we left ours for 11 minutes, but that just added an extra crunch! We aren’t professional biscuit decorators so we had a little bit of fun messing around creating these amateur designs! In total, it took us just short of two hours to bake and decorate but depending on how many you make this could pass a few hours.

Hot Chocolate Reindeers🎄🦌

Looking for something handmade for a Christmas present, something cheap and cheerful or even looking for stocking filler ideas, well, look no further we have the perfect gift for you!

Reindeer Hot Chocolates!

This are easy to make by following our step-by-step guide below and costs no more than £5 and this will create a few.

This product is basically a Reindeer’s head created from the ingredients to make a hot chocolate drink, which would go down a dream in the cold, Christmas season here in the UK.

Ingredients:

What will you need?

  • Piping Bag – The head
  • Handful of Mini Marshmallows – To fill the head
  • Instant Hot Chocolate – To fill the head
  • Elastic bands – To wrap up the Ingredients
  • Brown Pipe Cleaner – The antlers
  • Mini Pom Pom – The nose
  • 2x Googly Eyes – The eyes
  • Glue – To stick them all on

Step-by-Step Guide:

Once you have all the ingredients in front of you, you are ready to follow this guide:

  1. Open the piping bag and fill with 8 heaped teaspoons of Instant Hot Chocolate powder
  2. On top of the Hot Chocolate powder place a handful of mini marshmallows
  3. Using the elastic band close the piping bag above the mini marshmallows and securely fasten with the Elastic band so nothing falls out
  4. Wrap the brown pipe cleaners around the piping bag at where the elastic band is and bend 1/3 of the way up and 2/3 of the way up bend the other way to look like the antlers
  5. Using the glue – stick the eyes on the piping bag just below where the marshmallows start
  6. Using the glue – stick the pom pom on in-between and slightly below the eyes
  7. That is your gift complete!

This gift would be complete with the addition of a mug! Cheap and cheerful filled full of festive spirit. This gift is perfect for all ages, from young children’s stocking fillers to adults hampers with a miniature bottle of Baileys for a creative twist.

With 4 heaped teaspoons of the hot chocolate powder it’s best to add 180ml of boiling water and to create a thicker texture why not add hot milk warmed up from the microwave.

One reindeer served both of us (2 people) and it was delicious after a long day at work and coming home in the dark, cold nights this warmed us both up! We had some left over Chocolate Powder so sprinkled some on top of our marshmallows.

It’s a lovely little gift, that doesn’t take long to make and would put a smile on anyone’s face.
